The Mission Cooperation Plan is valuable for building up the missionary zeal. Hearing the heartbreaking stories from missionaries about the situations in their mission diocese, inspires a generous movement of the heart to perform works of mercy for our brothers and sisters in young churches, poor churches and persecuted churches. The MCP reminds the faithful that mission is not tangential to church history, mission is the heart of church life. MCP reminds us that cultural diversity is integral to our Catholic identity and mission.
Participation in the MCP is required by Bishop Lohse as it introduces each parish to a real-life missionary who stands for a mission cause from a faraway place. In doing so, it serves as a preview for the global celebration of World Mission Sunday. It also makes the needs of the Missions more real and more personal, as the faithful of the parish have an opportunity to relate to this visiting missionary in a way that might otherwise be relegated to a bulletin or pulpit announcement. It is very clear that where there has been a successful and satisfying parish experience of taking part in the MCP, the enthusiasm and response to World Mission Sunday also improves.
The form for making your requests known (Missionary Cooperative Plan Application for Assignment) can be completed on this page, or downloaded here and sent to the address provided on the form.
Please read through the MCP Mission Regulations before submitting an application. The process and regulations for both the parish and the appealing order or diocese can be found here.
